equal 如果當動詞，就不需要to啦
犯了文法上的嚴重錯誤

be equal to 是當形容詞用
equal 如果當動詞，就不需要to啦

"Equals to" is incorrect whichever way you look at it. It cannot be an adjective. The correct form of "be equal to" is "is equal to".

More correctly it should be (meter is US spelling; metre is British spelling):

I prefer the one hundred metre race, which is equal to 109 yards.

Or:
I prefer the one hundred metre race, which equals 109 yards.
